Thoracic pain

Thoracic pain occurs in the mid-back, between the cervical and lumbar regions, and is less common than neck or lower back pain.

Causes include poor posture, muscular strain, disc herniation, vertebral fractures or degenerative changes in the thoracic spine. Patients often describe aching, stiffness or sharp pain that may be aggravated by breathing, twisting or prolonged sitting.

Because thoracic pain can also be referred from the heart, lungs or digestive system. A thorough clinical assessment is essential to rule out serious conditions. Once structural spinal causes are identified, treatment focuses on physiotherapy, strengthening exercises, posture correction and occasionally interventional procedures for nerve or joint-related pain. Although frequently overlooked, thoracic pain can significantly impair mobility and quality of life if not addressed.
