Sciatica

Sciatica is pain that radiates along the sciatic nerve, which runs from the lower back through the hips and down each leg.

It is usually caused by compression of lumbar nerve roots, often from a herniated disc or spinal stenosis. Patients typically describe sharp, shooting or burning pain that may be accompanied by numbness, tingling or weakness in the affected leg.

Although many cases improve with conservative care, persistent sciatica can be highly disabling. Management includes physiotherapy, medications and epidural injections. When pain is resistant, interventional approaches such as pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) applied to the dorsal root ganglion can reduce nerve irritation and provide meaningful relief without nerve destruction.
