Radical pairs

Radical pairs are short-lived molecular species formed when a chemical bond splits and leaves two unpaired electrons on separate molecules.

These highly reactive radicals contribute to oxidative stress, damaging lipids, proteins and DNA. In chronic pain, oxidative stress sustained by radical pair activity drives inflammation and sensitization of nerves, worsening pain perception.

Recent studies suggest that PRF influences radical pair dynamics in combining them, reducing the burden of free radicals and restoring cellular balance. By dampening radical pair–mediated oxidative stress, PRF lowers downstream inflammation and protects neural structures. This mechanism is increasingly viewed as central to PRF’s unique non-destructive effect, making it distinct from other interventional approaches in pain medicine.
