Polyneuropathy

Polyneuropathy refers to a condition in which multiple peripheral nerves throughout the body are damaged or dysfunctional. This can lead to a combination of symptoms such as numbness, tingling, burning sensations, weakness, or pain—often beginning in the feet and hands and progressing upward in a “stocking-glove” pattern.

Common causes include diabetes (diabetic polyneuropathy), vitamin deficiencies, autoimmune diseases, infections, certain medications and toxins. In many cases, the underlying mechanism involves inflammation, oxidative stress, or microvascular damage affecting the nerve fibers.

From a pain-medicine perspective, polyneuropathy is clinically relevant because it often results in neuropathic pain that is difficult to treat with conventional analgesics. Among many treatment options, Pulsed Radiofrequency (PRF) has shown potential to modulate abnormal nerve signaling and reduce pain in selected patients, offering a non-destructive and neuromodulatory treatment option.
