Mechanical pain is pain that changes with physical activity or posture.
It often arises from the musculoskeletal system — for example, worsening when lifting, bending or twisting and improving with rest. Common causes include disc degeneration, facet joint dysfunction or spinal instability. Unlike neuropathic or inflammatory pain, mechanical pain reflects physical stress on tissues. Identifying mechanical patterns helps tailor treatment, from exercise and ergonomics to interventional approaches when conservative care is insufficient.
