A lesion is any abnormal change in tissue structure, which can result from trauma, inflammation, degeneration or tumors.
In pain medicine, lesions may involve nerves, joints, discs or muscles, and they are often the starting point for both acute and chronic pain syndromes. Identifying lesions through imaging and clinical assessment is key for choosing targeted therapies. Some interventional procedures, including PRF, don't work by destroying lesions but by modifying the pain signals they generate, offering pain relief without additional tissue damage.
