Hypersensitivity

Hypersensitivity describes an exaggerated response to stimuli, which can include touch, temperature, or pressure.

In pain medicine, it often refers to sensory changes associated with neuropathic pain or central sensitization. For patients, this can mean even light contact with clothing feels unbearable. On a physiological level, hypersensitivity reflects changes in both peripheral nerves and central processing. Treatments must address these abnormal responses, sometimes combining medication, physiotherapy and neuromodulation.
