Ganglion

A ganglion is a cluster of nerve cell bodies outside the central nervous system.

In pain medicine, certain ganglia play a key role in transmitting or modulating pain signals. Examples include the dorsal root ganglion (DRG), which carries sensory information from the periphery to the spinal cord and the ganglion impar, which transmits pelvic and perineal pain. These structures are important clinical targets for interventions like pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) and nerve blocks, offering pain relief without permanently damaging nerves.
